Macadamia — the queen of nuts from the Antipodes

Macadamia comes from the subtropical rainforests of eastern Australia and was known to Aboriginal peoples for thousands of years. The genus was described in 1857 by botanist Ferdinand von Mueller, who named it in honour of his friend, Dr John Macadam.

It is the only commercial food crop that Australia has given the world. Commercial cultivation was first mastered in Hawaii (from the 1880s), which supplied most of the world's macadamias for much of the 20th century — hence the colloquial name “Hawaiian nut”.

Today macadamia is regarded as the world's most expensive nut — among other reasons because trees take years to bear fruit, and the extremely hard shell can only be cracked by specialist machinery.

Macadamia oil — unrefined and refined

Macadamia has the highest oil content of any nut. We supply both types of oil — each has distinct qualities and applications.

Unrefined oil

Cold-pressed · golden · nutty aroma

The full flavour and nutritional profile — it retains the natural, buttery-nutty bouquet and a golden hue.

  • Around 80% of fatty acids are monounsaturated (incl. oleic and palmitoleic acid / omega-7)
  • Finishing dishes, salads, premium cuisine
  • Natural cosmetics — skin and hair care
  • Oxidative stability higher than olive oil — shelf life approx. 12 months

Refined oil

Neutral taste · high heat stability

A lighter, neutral-tasting oil for heat treatment — valued by chefs and cosmetics manufacturers as a base.

  • Smoke point approx. 210°C — one of the highest among edible oils
  • Frying, baking, professional gastronomy
  • Colourless base for cosmetics and INCI formulations
  • Ideal where the macadamia flavour should not dominate the dish

Applications of macadamia oil

Gastronomy & food industry

Food service · HORECA · production
  • Salads, dressings, premium mayonnaise, dips
  • Baking and desserts — a substitute for butter and other fats
  • Chips and snacks fried in macadamia oil
  • Ingredient of nut pastes and spreads

Cosmetics & personal care

INCI base · natural care
  • Palmitoleic acid — naturally present in skin sebum
  • Creams, balms, serums, massage oils
  • Hair care — masks and oil treatments
  • Absorbs quickly, leaves no greasy film
Note: Macadamia is toxic to dogs — keep raw material and products out of reach of pets.
